Class Dojo
We have changed our behavior tacking system to use Class Dojo points instead of the color chart. This change comes just to keep the students interested in their behavior choices. It is an online program that both teachers have access to and is based on points (positive:green and negative:red). Throughout the day they have the opportunity to earn points when they follow expectations, are helpful/kind, and are in general making good choices. However, when they make poor decisions or do not follow directions, rules, and expectations, they will be moved down a color. This continues throughout the day (earn a point, lose a point). The points they end the day on are the points they should report to you and if they end the day on 6 green points or more they will be rewarded in class as well. We appreciate you talking to your child each day about their points and why they ended up there.
As first graders, we are working very hard on the basic expectations of being in school, they must be SAFE, RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, and LEARNERS at all times. When any of these break down it takes away from the learning and the positive atmosphere we work hard to create in our classes. We give several warnings and chances before taking away a point, so if your child comes home with red (negative) points or your receive a call, please help us teach these expectations. We look forward to working with you to help your child become ready for second grade this second semester
Green 6 or more points = reward in class
Green 1-5 points= I had a great day.
0 points = Ready to Learn (where every students begins his/her day!)
Red 1-3 points= Consequence or buddy room
Red 4 or more points = Parent Contact, Office Referral, Loss of Privilege (this depends on frequency and seriousness)

FRIDAY FOLDERS
Friday folders are sent home every Friday and are due back the following Thursday with completed homework inside (and any other communication you need to send). Your child will not have a daily folder. The Friday folder will contain homework, graded papers, and communication from the teachers and school. Please go through this folder EVERY Friday with your child. Please talk about their work, what is going on in class/school, and guide them in their homework throughout the week. Conversations at home about their performance (with academics and behavior) and encouraging responsibility with the folder and homework will help our students be successful! We will no longer have Fun Friday, though students will still get rewarded for completing and bringing their homework on time with a sticker for their reward chart. We are counting on families to help support their child in learning this responsibility.
Homework will contain:
Reading Log (please read each day with your child and record it)
Math review pages (to reinforce what they have already learned)
