Meet Your Teachers
Our Classrooms:
Our classroom runs in a unique way. Your child is assigned a homeroom teacher for attendance, specials, and downtimes. They have Mrs. Allen for Math and Ms. Tousignant for Reading. They get to switch between our open walled classroom and enjoy the teaching styles of two people! It is not unusual to us when a student bonds with one teacher or the other. We encourage this and it is in our core beliefs to allow these connections to form. We believe that children learn the best when they feel safe, loved, and cared for. We use the strengths of each teacher to provide the best learning environment possible for your child. This is our 2nd year as partner teachers and we picked each other to create the unique environment we have created. We will use each year to learn and adjust our program to make it better. We work very closely and encourage parents and students to come to us equally with questions and concerns. Your homeroom teacher will serve as your guide for Special Education programs or serious behavior concerns, but both teachers are always equally informed. We both consider ourselves to have 40+ "kids" each year.

My name is Yvette Tousignant. I am Team Teaching 1st grade with Ms. Allen at Lake Hood.I have taught K through 2nd grade for the last 20 years in Anchorage. I am looking
forward to this year to continuing to team teach with Ms Allen. I will be doing Language and word work, and Ms Allen will be teaching my students math.
I was born in Alaska and raised here, then I went to college in Colorado. I chose to move back home, to teach and be near my family.I received my masters in Curriculum and Theory, with a Reading and Gifted Endorsement from UAA.
I am excited for the new adventures this year and to watch the children soar in reading!

My name is Nikki Allen. I am one of your 1st grade teachers.I am in my 8th year of teaching this year and have taught Grades 1,2, and 4. I am excited to continue teaching 1st grade once again! I am lucky to be able to continue teaming with Ms. Tousignant this year. She will be taking my homeroom students for reading and word work, while I take her students for math. I moved here from Texas about four years ago. Alaska has brought so many new adventures in life and teaching. My husband and I love hiking, biking, skiing, camping, and fishing. All these things are even more enjoyable with our lovable and energetic dog, Koda! My favorite color is blue and my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving.
